17-20 : Darius the King known as: These countries came in my possession. By the grace of Ahuramazda they were my subjects; they brought their tribute to me; what it was tell to them of me, is per night or per day, it was done.

20-24: Darius the King known as: In these countries the man who (was) faithful, I rewarded it well; that which (was) inaccurate, I punished it well. By the grace of Ahuramazda these countries respected my law; as it was tell to them of me, it was thus done.

24-26: Darius the King known as: Ahuramazda granted this kingdom to me. Ahuramazda brought its assistance to me, until I take possession of this kingdom. By the grace of Ahuramazda I hold this kingdom.

26-35 : Darius the King known as: This was done by me, after I soothsayers King. A son of Cyrus, name of Cambyse, our family was to him a king here. This Cambyse he was a brother, name of Smerdis, of the same mother, same father that Cambyse.

             Then, Cambyse killed this Smerdis.When Cambyse killed Smerdis, it did not come to knowledge from the people that Smerdis had been killed. Then Cambyse from went away to Egypt. When Cambyse from went away to Egypt, the people became unfair. Then falseness was spread in the country, in Perse as in Médie, and in other countries.

35-43: Darius the King known as: Then there was a man, a Magus, name of Gaumata; it rose of Paichiyauvada. It lied to people as follows: " I am Smerdis, the son of Cyrus, the brother of Cambyse. " Then all people rebelled against Cambyse (and) joined with him (Gaumata), in Perse as in Médie, and in other countries.
             It seizes kingdom. 9 days of the Garmapada month were past, then it seizes kingdom. Then Cambyse died, of an inflicted death by him.

43-48 Darius the King known as: This kingdom of which Gaumata the Magus deprived Cambyse, this kingdom was of long date in our family. Then Gaumata the Magus deprived Cambyse of it. It acquired Perse and Médie and the other countries. It made its own possession of it. He became king.

48-53 Darius the King known as: There was no man, neither Persan, neither Mède, nor nobody of our family, which would make deprive Gaumata the Magus of the kingdom. The people were very afraid of him, which it would kill many people, who formerly knew Smerdis. For this reason it would kill many people, " for fear they know me that I am not Smerdis, the son of Cyrus. "

 72-82. Darius the King say: When I killed Gaumâta the Magus, then a man, name of Assina, the son of Upadarma - it rose in élam. To the people thus he says, " I am a King in élam ". Then the élamites became rebellious (and) stuck to this Assina. He became king in élam. And a man, Babylonien, name of Naditabaira (Nidintu-Beautiful), the son of Ainaira - it rose in Babylonia. To
the people thus it lied, " I am Nabukudratchara (Nabuchodonosor), the son of Nabonaita (Nabonidus)." Then the Babylonien people, entire, stuck to this Nidintu-Beautiful. Babylon became rebellious; it seizes the kingdom in Babylonia.

81-83. Darius the King known as: I sent (a message) to Élam. This Assina, bound, was brought to me. I 1e killed.

83-90. Darius the King known as: Then I from went away to Babylon, towards this Nidintu-Beautiful, which is called Nabuchodonosor. The army which belonged to Nidintu-Beautiful commandit the Tiger. There it is established, and, because of water, (the Tiger) was navigable (i.e.,
water was deep). Then, I floated my army on inflated skins; a part I went up on camels; for another part I provided horses. Ahuramazda brought its assistance to me; by the grace of Ahuramazda we crossed the Tiger. There I severely beat this army of Nidintu-Beautiful. 26 days of the Assiyâdiya month were past, then us Hvrâmes battles.


 

90-96. Darius the King known as: Then, I from went away to Babylon.
           When I did not arrive to Babylon - a city of the name of Zâzâna, with the length of Euphrate-là this Nidintu-Beautiful, which is called Nabuchodonosor, came with an army against me to fight battle. Then we fought. Ahuramazda brought its assistance to me; by the grace of Ahuramazda I severely beat the army of Nidintu-Beautiful. One of its shares was thrown in water; water carried it. 2 days of the Anâmaka month were past, then we fought battle.
